SÉLIM

Crafting Stories That Matter

Sélim Benzeghia is a documentary filmmaker and producer from France and Algeria. His work primarily focuses on social justice themes, including forced migration, climate justice, and international human rights. He has a background in law and history, which he applies to his work in documentary filmmaking, project management, and cross-cultural communication.

Sélim is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Arabic, a skill that has facilitated his work with various NGOs, academic institutions, and media outlets internationally. His documentaries, which often explore topics relevant to regions such as North Africa and Latin America, have been produced in collaboration with organizations like France Télévision, Radio Nova, Nova Production, UNHCR, and UNICEF.

In his career, Sélim has also worked directly with NGOs, including managing projects in Lebanese refugee camps for the UNHCR and working with Yomken in Egypt. These experiences have provided him with practical insights into the challenges in these environments, influencing his approach to documentary filmmaking.

His recent debut feature film, focusing on the detention of migrant children in France, is not only set to air on France Télévision but is also supported by Unicef and the Global Campus of Human Rights. This film is currently on a festival tour and is being used in an impactful campaign with strategic screenings at the French Parliament during debates on immigration law projects. The film was featured in important parliamentary debates and contributed to discussions that led to policy changes regarding child migrant detention in the country.

As a recipient of an award from the Institute of Engagement, Sélim has been recognized for his contribution to youth engagement and civic responsibility. Additionally, he is an active member of the 50/50 Collective and the Documentary Campus Masterschool, where he supports diversity and equal representation in the film industry.
